Message From the General Manager
Our 84th festive season was, as always, a very merry occasion. From Carols by Candlelight and a traditional Christmas dinner to a New Year’s Eve party with music by Chris Jensen, it was wonderful to see so many returning guests and many new faces having a great time at our hotel. A huge thank you to our guests and especially our exceptional staff for making this festive season such a success.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all those guests who partnered with us in collecting much needed supplies for our Pack for a Purpose initiative. All donations will be sorted and delivered to our local community over the next few weeks.

In 1939, Albert van der Riet first opened the doors of our then 43-room Drakensberg hotel, offering guests unrivalled access to the Drakensberg mountains. Today, the van der Riet family continues his legacy, and the hotel has grown to provide 104 luxurious rooms, exceptional buffets at every meal and an incredible range of activities, facilities and adventures right on your doorstep.

EXCITING UPGRADES & REFURBISHMENTS
Last year, our luxurious Presidential Suite had a few more upgrades, including the retiling of the veranda, upgrading the furniture and installing two larger TVs. Couches in Albert’s Bar and all the wingback chairs in the 50s rooms were beautifully recovered. Our vibrant new table linen and runners are a stunning addition to your dining experience and the new wheelchair ramp to our wheelchair-friendly rooms allows all guests to effortlessly savour the beauty of the Drakensberg.
This year, we plan to continue with further improvements as and when budget allows.

MEET THE CATHEDRAL PEAK HOTEL TEAM
We are so privileged to have such a wonderful team who work together to provide our guests with the ultimate Drakensberg experience!
Our well-known and loved Assistant Food and Beverage Manager, Joseph Kubheka, has been working at the hotel for 32 years. After starting out as a barman and being trained by the famous Isaac for 6 years, Joseph was promoted and has never looked back. He loves meeting new people and talking to all our guests. In his free time, he enjoys gardening and looking after his livestock.
Our extremely popular Golf Course Manager, Albert Mncube, has been working at the hotel for over 23 years. He started as a general worker, before being promoted to Golf Course Supervisor, and later became the Golf Course Manager. He loves making sure the course looks lovely so our guests can enjoy this beautiful game surrounded by the stunning peaks and valleys that we call home. In his free time, Albert enjoys reading magazines about golf and learning how to better take care of the course.
BIRD GUIDE TRAINING
For all the twitchers out there, you will be delighted to know that our hiking guides recently completed an enriching Bird Guide Training Course, led by Rod Dicks from Ladysmith Birders and Steven Segang of Birdlife SA. We are privileged to live amongst a vast diversity of birdlife at our hotel, and our team looks forward to taking you on captivating birding adventures.
