The season has turned, and the Drakensberg is looking absolutely spectacular. Fresh mountain air and bright, open skies make this an ideal time to soak up the beauty of the surrounding peaks.
Well done to all who took part in the Cathedral Golf Club Championships this March! Our sincere thanks to Club Chairman, Matthew Mayo, and every player who made the event such a success. We’re already looking forward to next year’s competition.
As the temperatures dip, settle in with a steaming cup of hot chocolate by the fire in Albert’s Bar, enjoy lively conversation in the warm lounge, or treat yourself to comforting seasonal dishes crafted for cosy winter evenings.

Lunch on the Terrace is Back!
We’re excited to welcome day visitors and hikers to enjoy our à la carte lunchtime menu on the terrace at Cathedral Peak Hotel, set against the breathtaking Drakensberg Mountains.
Perfect for refuelling after a morning hike, a scenic drive, or simply a relaxed lunch with a view, the menu is served daily from 10:00 – 16:00. Hikers are welcome, terrace seating is available, and no overnight stay is required.
Guests staying at the hotel may also order from this menu at an additional cost, as it does not form part of the full board rate.
Come for the views, stay for the flavour.
Thank You for Supporting Our Pack for a Purpose Drive
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported our Pack for a Purpose charity drive! Through the generosity of HPC Ministries, 20 school uniforms were donated to Didima Primary School and Sokesimbone High School, along with 200 servings of soft porridge distributed to 10 crèches across the valley, helping nourish young learners during their school days.
We are also deeply grateful to our guests who donated stationery and shoes, shared with Mhlwazini High School and Ngwadini Primary School.
In early January, our Assistant General Manager, Bafana Mnisi, and HR Administrator, Zama Zwane, had the privilege of personally handing over these donations, helping learners begin the year feeling supported, encouraged, and ready to learn. Your kindness has made a meaningful difference to the children, schools, and wider community.

Autumn is the perfect time to explore the Drakensberg Mountains, and we are your ideal base for adventure. Guests can enjoy up to three complimentary guided hikes daily, including a highlighted walk each day where you’ll experience the novelty of tea, coffee, and rusks served in the mountains – a unique way to soak in the scenery while refuelling.
With cool air, golden foliage, and tranquil trails, autumn offers breathtaking scenery for both casual strolls and more challenging hikes. After a day on the trails, return to the comfort of the hotel with hearty meals, relaxing amenities, and spectacular mountain views.

Although Cathedral Peak Hotel is privately owned by the van der Riet family, it sits within the uKhahlamba–Drakensberg Park and is completely unfenced, allowing wildlife to roam freely across the property. Guests may spot eland, baboons, mountain reedbuck, bushbuck, jackal, and over 200 bird species right on the hotel grounds.
A large section of land that was originally owned by the hotel’s founder, Albert van der Riet, was generously donated to the Park, helping preserve this stunning wilderness for generations to come. This unique setting offers a true wilderness experience, where visitors can enjoy breathtaking scenery and observe animals in their natural habitat.
Beyond its beauty, the mountains serve as a sanctuary for wildlife and a vital source of freshwater and biodiversity for surrounding communities.
