Cathedral Peak Hotel gives back

Our tranquil and secluded valley is more than just the perfect setting for the ultimate Drakensberg getaway – it is our home. That’s why we’re dedicated to taking care of the people who make up the communities surrounding our beautiful resort. Our aim is not just to protect, but to actively uplift, and we are always looking for new and innovative ways to support the communities leading up to the Hotel.

Schools

  • Toys, educational equipment and books are supplied wherever possible
  • We regularly assist with high school and primary school functions and specific requests
  • Our work experience programme gives students from the community the opportunity to gain skills, knowledge and experience

Community

  • Food, clothes and linen are donated to those in need on an on-going basis
  • Employing of local casual labour for over busier Hotel periods
  • Local weavers are given the opportunity to sell their products at our hotel twice a week
  • Employing of local cultural performers for hotel entertainment
  • Our staff are educated and trained on HIV/AIDS through a programme with external counsellors
  • Visits by a mobile clinic for hotel staff are regularly organised
  • A minimum of 70% of our employees are hired from surrounding communities

Pack for a Purpose

Because our community means so much to us, we are always looking for ways to invest in future generations.

“Be the change you want to see in the world”
– Mahatma Ghandi

Through our involvement with Pack for a Purpose, we hope to uplift local schools and provide them with the appropriate equipment and tools needed in their schooling environments.

This initiative gives our guests the chance to help us support the community by finding a little space in your bag for some sorely-needed supplies benefiting children from preschool through high school, from ages 3 through 18 years old.

Supporting Local

Now more than ever one needs to look at supporting local businesses in order to care for local communities, stimulate the local economy and assist in sustaining jobs.

Local businesses are significant creators of jobs — and they’re also more likely to hire people who live locally, as opposed to relying on people commuting in long distances. What’s more, the money you spend at a local business is far more likely to stay in the community. Local businesses are run by local people, who care about the community and want to support it.

With Cathedral Peak Hotel having a strong history of supporting local suppliers in and around KZN, our proud partnerships contribute to our ability to deliver an experience of the Drakensberg like no other!

To name just a few of the local suppliers we support:

Indezi River Creamery (Balgowen) – Yoghurt and Cheeses
Country Bounty (Lions River) – Homemade jams
Nqubeko Cooperations (Winterton) – Uniforms
Barney’s (Midlands) – Eggs
Bushmans River Trout (Cathedral Peak) – Fresh Trout
