A comfortable hike from the Cathedral Peak Hotel, Ribbon Falls is a stunning natural waterfall that is said to have
some of the cleanest drinking water in the area. The hiking destination boasts breathtaking views over the endless
valleys and majestic peaks of the Drakensberg mountains, as well as some amazing swimming opportunities to cool
you off after your walk!
There is also the nearby Ribbon Falls Cave to explore. Hikers have long been using this cave as a pit-stop on more
extensive hikes, and some even spend the night under the sandstone overhang, which can accommodate 6 people.
While the 3.5-hour round trip may seem a little long for less-experienced hikers, this is based on a relaxed walking
pace and includes time to stop and rest – or, more likely, time to stop and take in the magnificent views!
This hike sees you following an easy stepped pathway towards Doreen Falls, before turning left up the ridge to
Ribbon Falls on a steeper, rockier path. A short scramble up a ladder is required, and you’ll gradually climb the ridge
to the falls. After a wonderful day out enjoying the falls, the river and the breathtaking views, head back the way you
came to get back to the hotel.
