Updates, special offers & COVID safety

After a very difficult year, we are overwhelmed by the level of support from our loyal guests – particularly those who bought vouchers which allowed us to keep our doors open.

While the implementation of strict protocol measures has had its challenges, for the most part our guests have been understanding and appreciative of the situation we are in. Hopefully in the not too distant future these will be relaxed.

With international travel being limited, we are cautiously optimistic that the public will support local, and an increase in business should allow us to start the process of revamping soon. The first of this revamp will be the change to duvets on the beds before Christmas.

Thanks again for your ongoing support and please travel safe these holidays.

The mountains are starting to come alive after finally receiving our first rains. Long summer hours mean you can pack loads of activities into the day, and the typical afternoon thunder storms can be a wonderful display from the hotel’s terrace.

The countdown to our 81st festive season has begun. Menus are being prepared, special treats are being ordered, entertainment programmes for adults and children alike are being arranged and the general buzz of activity that precedes the festive season annually is well underway.

For those of you who will not be able to join us for Christmas and/or New Year, on behalf of the van der Riet Family, Management and staff of Cathedral Peak Hotel, we would like to wish you a very merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!

On Thursday 24th September, our staff, wearing in traditional dress, celebrated Heritage Day by gathering the guests on the terrace and lawns to join them in the Jerusalema Dance Challenge. Great fun was had by all! A traditional South African dinner buffet menu was designed and served by our Chef and the kitchen team that evening.

Celebrating 81 years this December

After over 80 years of growing, expanding and perfecting our tranquil and secluded mountain hotel, we’re looking back at the incredible journey we’ve been on. Join us as we remember when the hotel had just 43 rooms, simple set menus and dancing to the gramophone by candlelight as the only entertainment

Our top priority is the wellbeing of our guests and staff. As such, we have enacted several hygiene and social distancing protocols as advised by the Federated Hospitality Association of Southern Africa and the Tourism Business Council of South Africa.

We’d like to share with you some of the new procedures we have implemented to give you peace of mind when returning to Cathedral Peak Hotel.

Bookings for Christmas and New Year are filling up quickly, with only a few spaces left during the holiday period. Don’t miss out, contact our reservations team today!

The all-important visit by Santa will take place after a Carols by Candlelight evening on Christmas Eve. Christmas morning will include a service in the hotel’s chapel. The extravagant Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve dinners are sure to be a highlight with Chris Jenson performing live on both evenings.

Of course, the general programme of activities will continue, with free daily guided walks and access to mountain bike or jogging trails, quad bike rides, helicopter sight-seeing trips, horse and pony rides, mini adventure golf and so much more for the whole family to enjoy.

Our tranquil and secluded valley is more than the perfect setting for the ultimate Drakensberg getaway – it’s our home. That’s why we’re dedicated to taking care of the people who make up the communities surrounding our beautiful hotel.

“It is in giving that we receive” – Francis of Assisi

Please join us these holidays by finding a little extra space in your bag for some sorely-needed supplies to enable us to share the festive spirit. The Pack for a Purpose project will benefit children from preschool through to high school, from ages 3 to 18 years old, living in the valley leading to the hotel. We hope to uplift local schools and provide them with the appropriate equipment and tools needed in their schooling environments.
