Message from William & Belinda
van der Riet
Not only is this our family’s 80th year of owning and running the hotel, but our family is getting
even bigger! Sam and Byron are expecting their first child in November 2019, seeing the start of the 4th generation of van der Riets at Cathedral Peak Hotel.
We’re excited to welcome him or her into the world and continue the legacy that Albert started 80 years ago!
80 years of Cathedral Peak Hotel
While you probably know that it’s our 80th anniversary by now, you might not know the incredible story of how we ended up providing hospitality and entertainment excellence in our tranquil and secluded valley. When Albert van der Riet first set eyes on the area in the early 1900s, his imagination was captured by the beauty of the mountains, and the vibrant fauna and flora, and he saw a vision of a hotel offering unrivalled access to the Drakensberg mountains.
Opening the doors for the first time in 1939, Albert started a family legacy that continues to this day, and we are proud to be fulfilling his vision by providing our guests with the ultimate Drakensberg experience!
